Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois Domaine de Barroubio 2017

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for ten pounds when I went to collect some other wine I had bought through the website www.bidforwine.co.uk.The small Muscat de St Jean de Minervois appellation consists of only 800 hectares of windswept limestone plateau 200 metres above sea level located north-east of the larger appellation of Minervois near Narbonne in the South of France. The Domaine de Barroubio belongs to the Miquel family and has a website [www.barroubio.fr ] It is a white wine made from 100% Muscat de petit grain. The grapes are overripe when harvested and the fermentation is stopped by adding alchol which means the wine acheives its minimum ABV of 15%.The practise of fortifying wine in this way goes back to at least the 13th century in the South of France and later spread to Spain and Portugal where it is used in Sherry and Port production.I drank my bottle last night with my plate of bread and cheese. It is a sweet wine similar to a Sauternes, reminiscent of syrup or,honey and apricots with a citrus note like mandarins at the end.I enjoyed it

Picked this up while on the island of Kauai. Very nice little treat. Floral bouquet and amber color, slight dry apricot on the palate. Of course it's sweet, it's muscat. Bordering on late harvest. Yum!
