Muscadet Sevre & Maine Chais Vinicoles a Saint-Martin au Laert NV

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for about 4 Euros the last time I was in Calais.Muscadet is the most common white wine of the Loire Valley and is made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape which was introduced to the region by the Dutch in the 17th Century. This grape is no longer used in Burgundy.Muscadet de Sevre et Maine is a sub-appellation from the area to the South-East of the city of Nantes and takes its name from the rivers Sevre and Maine.Served chilled it was an excellent accompaniment to my New Year's Day dinner of smoked mackerel. It is dry and crisp without being sharp and there is fruit but an austere kind of fruit which reminded me of melonr. For a simple negociant wine I thought it pretty reasonable as well as good value for nmoney
