The Château Musar rosé is deceptive - the colour is bright and a very light pink - almost onion skin in colour, giving the illusion of a delicate, elegant wine. The nose is of peaches, vanilla, strawberries and fruity apples. It is the palate, however, which shows its true power, round, rich and full. This wine has a touch of silk with almonds.

Created in 1930 in the cellar of an old 17th century castle, Château Musar is as much the work of a family as the living testimony of all the civilisations that have tread its soil. After a long stay in France, Gaston Hochar returned to Lebanon and created Château Musar in the cellars of the old 'Mzar' castle in Ghazir, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. What began as a hobby soon became a passion; a passion inspired by an initial encounter with renowned viticulturist Ronald Barton while he was stationed in Lebanon during the Second World War. The family's love for wine grew and in 1959, after completing his oenology diploma in Bordeaux, the eldest son, Serge, entered the business. Some call him the magician, the man behind this extraordinary wine. His response is that he only seeks is to translate what nature intended. Serge's younger brother Ronald, named after the late Barton, took over Château Musar's marketing and finance departments in 1962. Read less

The Musar Jeune (formally know as Cuvee Rouge) is the second wine of Château Musar This red has some spicy Syrah added to the regular mix of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault. Great dark cherry fruit on the palate with approachable but present tannins.

Fresh cherry and berry flavors mark this medium-bodied red. Spice and red licorice fill the bright finish. Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

A sort of second wine for Chandacirc;teau Musar, this blend (formally known as Cuvandeacute;e Rouge) comes off the estateandrsquo;s younger vines. Based on cinsault with 20 percent each syrah and cabernet sauvignon, vinified in cement vats with ambient yeasts, the wine is bigger than the diminutive name suggests. Itandrsquo;s lush with cherry preserve flavors underlined by dark, earth notes. Scents of sumac and cranberry lift its complexity, while caramel and nut notes point to its maturity. Ready to pour with lamb kofta this winter.

The Jeune Red from Chandacirc;teau Musarandrsquo;s second line (formerly labeled Musar Cuvandeacute;e Rouge) is a blend of Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon that smells sweetly of ripe black cherries with rustic herbal and earthy notes. It opens softly with sweet blackberries and a hint of green bramble, but is chased by a mid-palate of fairly aggressive tannins and acidity. Fermented and aged in concrete vats, the Musar Jeune is completely unoaked and intended for early consumption, but would probably do nicely with some bottle aging as well.
