Marques de Murrieta is a family business in an almost "romantic" sense of the world. This project is a way of life, where is impossible to cut the ties that bind our wines and our family.
Editorial Reviews for Murrieta Rioja Reserva
Hot rocks, candied licorice and smoky tobacco dominate the upright and focused nose that gains a touch of funk with notes of wet sneakers, fur, flowers, a minor matchstick tone, and cocoa, toast, caramel oak notes. In the mouth this is very smooth and easy with the richness to back it up. There is good balancing acid and nice, crisp tannins that give this lean yet ripe wine a refreshing feel up front that turns a bit heavy on the backend that is dominated by drying and astringent tannins. A nice marriage of fruit and wood with nice earthy shale notes offer some cut on the back end and black cherry fruit that lacks a bit of intensity though there is a long finish that has just a hint of leafiness candied/dried peach, cinnamon and braised fennel and orange juice edge. Solid. Rioja. 90pts
A nice round kind of creature, saddle up, horseradish, wooded door with copper handle, I think of a Spanish villa in the early 20th. Low on fruits, solid tannins, nice citric spike. It has the appeal of your grand-pappy's war-chest. What treasures will you find?
Can't offer much beyond what Greg mentioned above. Sweet, complex, and mineral. Me encanta!
I´ve just tried this wine and it´s very good. Lots of complexity, dark fruits, leather, raisings and a aftertaste slightly sweet. 2004 it´s the best year in Spain, for all I know, in a long time. Drink it now!
Sensational does not express the character of this experience. From the nose to the finish this is truely a classic creation of art.
I love this wine, and was lucky enough to discover this in Barcelona and order a few boxes. This is one of the best Rioja's for the price. Deep colour, very full aromas with a hint of spice, and it is almost sweet. I think the smell makes the taste, which is sweet and smooth. Very very good with tapas meats - of course!
Had a bottle of this one night in Andorra and saved the cork, so I could find it in case quantities. Fabulous.
Three and a half glasses

The grapes are first de-stemmed and then fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks for 8-11 days, with constant skin contact, at 25C. During fermentation the wine is both pumped over the cap of grape skins at the top of the tank (remontage), and also the cap is pressed into the fermenting wine every second day (pigeage). Both these processes ensure maximum color and aroma, without producing excessive tannin. Afterwards the solid parts of the grapes are pressed in vertical wooden presses with double screws. This is a smooth and slow treatment that favors the extraction of the colour and tannins that reside in the skin of the grapes.
Wine Enthusiast ReviewThis is a spectacular wine in every sense of the word. The nose blends alluring scents of smoke, asphalt, rubber and black fruit. The palate is saturated and smooth, with black cherry and blackberry flavors leading the way. Coffee, berry pie and mocha help the finish hold court and then fade away. Already good but best from 2010-2020.Wine Advocate ReviewRated 92Dark ruby/purple-colored, it reveals an aromatic array of toasty new oak, spice box, mineral, blueberry, and black currants. Considerably more powerful than its traditionally made siblings, on the palate if is full-bodied, firm, layered, and quite concentrated. The spicy flavors fall on the dark side of the spectrum with blackberry, plum, and black currant in the forefront. The wine has at least a decade of aging potential and will be at its peak from 2015 to 2030 although it can be enjoyed now with a charcoal-grilled ribeye.Wine Tasting NotesTo speak about Dalmau is to speak about Canajas, a unique single vineyard within our 300-hectare Ygay Estate with vines that are more than 50 years old located at 420 meters above sea level. Long maceration during fermentation, ageing in new French oak barrels and a very limited production also characterize the wine. This modern Rioja wine made from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano perfectly reflects the innovations taking place at Marqus de Murrieta.
Wine Advocate ReviewMedium to dark ruby-colored, it offers up a stylish bouquet of cedar, leather, tobacco, spice box, and blackberry. Medium-bodied, nicely balanced, and succulent, this ripe, tasty wine from a superb vintage will evolve for 3-4 years and perform at its best between 2011 and 2019. It is a very good value in the classic Rioja style.Wine Tasting NotesMade from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo, this wine embodies ripe fruit qualities with a perfect balance of acidity and supple roundness on the palate, with just a hint of new oak. Our Red Reserva is a traditional Rioja with the classic "Murrieta signature" and enjoys all the benefits of modern winemaking philosophy, equipment and techniques.
