What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemaker's notes: This hugely popular award winning wine offers touches of vanilla and melon with firm acid and crisp structure. Medium bodied with excellent mousse and a rich lingering finish it is equally at home with a plate of iced oysters fried calamari chicken or a favorite pasta with a mild sauce. `Mature aromas of char yeast and flint with fruit notes in the background. I enjoyed this lovely little sparkler at an event where Southeast Asian food was served. This brut performed well alone (glasses were passed out before food was brought out), but was even more impressive with the food. Don't be afraid to serve this alongside bold flavors because it will hold up really well.
