Muirwood Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Member Review by Cheap Wine Critic:

The 2008 Muirwood Cab is an accessible medium-bodied Cabernet and an excellent value at $13. A little swirl of this deep crimson Cab gives off ripe red fruit aromas with pleasant earthy undertones. On the palate too, this wine offers plenty of fresh, ripe fruit with enough sugar to please fans of fruit-forward reds without alienating lovers of old-world reds. This Cab doesn't jump out and woo your palate on the first tasting; rather it slowly seduces the taste buds with an elegant nonchalance as you drink. Oak aging has mellowed this wine, softening the tannins and leaving subtle traces of spice and cedar box behind after each sip. While some may prefer bolder and others mellower styles of Cabernet, the 2008 Muirwood Cab strikes an impressive balance between the silky smooth and the beautifully bold that's sure to appeal to wine drinkers of all stripes.

Dark, velvety red in the glass and full of heavy fruit and delicate spice notes, Muirwood's Cabernet is lush and easy-drinking. On the nose, ripe blackberry and black cherry lead into an earthy, deep mouthfeel that suggests tones of cedar, chocolate, and smoky forest air.

This medium-bodied Cab from Monterey has a deep crimson color in the glass. The flavors follow suit with black raspberry and black-cherry-vanilla-tinged fruit. The wine has just the right amount of grip to pair with rare roast beef.

Really good oaky wine. Great for the price. A very pleasant, but not very serious, Cabernet. Deep blackish, brickish ruby. Rich nose of cigar box and milk chocolate, with plummy blackberry fruit in the background. Round, soft, earthy/plummy flavors are very nice.

Known for its elegance and style, this Cabernet is sleek and fresh on the palate. Pronounced fruits of red raspberry, blueberry and hints of toasty oak provide a satisfying array of flavor.

Packed with beautifully balanced fruit and spice, this wine allows you to indulge a little bit everyday. Full black berry, cassis, smoky black fruits and an oak-granted cedary toast sum up a few of the fine qualities of this wine. The perfect wine to take home by the case for company, parties, or any old night you feel like spoiling yourself.

A staff favorite for not only its beautiful fruit, but its amazing value. Lush black cherry, red and black currant and hints of spicy oak. Incredibly soft, yet full-bodied and packed with flavor. Incredibly affordable - perfect for everyday drinking.
