What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

Winemakers Notes

"The 2006 Shiraz "The Gaffer" (meaning "the Boss") was aged for 12months in a mix of new and used French oak. Purple-colored, it exhibitsa slightly muted nose of damp earth, cinnamon, pepper, and blue fruits.Supple-textured and full-bodied, the wine has gobs of ripe fruit, layered flavors and excellent balance in its forward personality. Drinkit over the next 6-8 years." - Jay Miller of The Wine AdvocateCheese Pairings: Gouda, Parmesan, PecorinoFood Pairings: Barbecue Spareribs, Eggplant Parmesan, Lamb Marsala

Reviews

My wife and I absolutely love this wine. Really one of the nicest wines I have ever tried... it just fits my taste so well. I had the opportunity to try this wine only to find that it is not available in Alberta. It is my current "Holy Grail", so if anyone knows where I may acquire this wine I will purchase a couple cases. Anyway, on to the review... Upfront full bodied jammy berry flavour with a lingering finish that keeps you asking for more. Very well balanced and "spiced" to perfection.

You know the type. Big and thick and loads of jam. Solid and fun and not for the faint of fruit.
