Château Mouton-rothschild:
Since 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, located at Pauillac in the Médoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the châteaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet.

very leathery, smooth, and thick at the same time, although was distinctly lesser on the palate than the 89 mouton

Big, big wine with complex, late-opening flavors. Strong note of truffles, particularly near finish. Wine never needs to get any better.

The initial pungent, barnyard bouquet in no way predicts the balanced cherry fruit/cedar tannins that follow with a burnt cherry finish.

A magnificent wine thatrsquo;s ripe, powerful, seductive and amazingly deep. Massively concentrated and bursting with currant, plum, berry, cedar, chocolate and all sorts of exotic spice flavors, yet it keeps its balance, never going to excess. Lingers on the finish for minutes. A classic. Try to keep your hands off it until 2000 to 2010.

One of the stars in every vintage, the rsquo;89 Mouton defines class and concentration. An exciting wine, with thick, chewy cassis, mint and berry flavors, full, silky tannins and great harmony. Try after 2000.

Cigar tobacco, cedar and red fruit aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a delicate finish. Elegant, seductive Mouton. Best after 2006.

(81% cabernet sauvignon 10% cabernet franc and 9% merlot; pH 3.69; IPT 60; 12.2% alcohol; 76% new oak; a 79% selection): Bright red with a pale rim. Knockout nose of aromatic herbs strawberry sweet spices and acacia flower; yet another wine strongly marked by its cabernet franc presence. Fresh and vibrant this absolutely dances on the palate with strawberry sour red cherry and raspberry flavors complicated by gunflint and herbs. High acidity provides great clarity and cut to the long

(Barrel tasting) Aromas of very ripe raspberries, with bread crumbs and tobacco. Full-bodied, with silky tannins. Lots of currants on the finish. Not as complex as I hoped, but clearly outstanding, almost classic.

Made from low yields of 28 hectoliters per hectar, this profound blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot possesses a finished pH of 3.8, alcohol of 12.9% (nearly identical to Lafite Rothschild in that sense), and 3.5 total acidity (much higher than the other first growths). The 2003 is similar in style to Moutonrsquo;s 1982, but softer and more pliable than that wine was at the same age. The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest began on the same day it did in both 1982 and 1947hellip; an interesting coincidence. Black/purple-colored to the rim, with a gorgeous nose of expresso roast intermixed with classic Mouton creme de cassis liqueur-like notes, its powerful, unctuous flavors cascade over the palate revealing tremendous intensity as well as strong tannin. If my instincts are correct, it is the ripest, most flamboyant Mouton-Rothschild since the 1982. Anticipated maturity: 2012ndash;2035.
