Mourchon Côtes du Rhône Blanc la Source 2011

Member Review by tabednar:

A wonderful step up from the "Tradition" series (http://www.snooth.com/wine/domaine-de-mourchon-cotes-du-rhone-villages-seguret-tradition-2007/). Wonderfully complex and satisfying. Medium bodied with similar hints of cherry and spice. More developed and oakey. You can tell a diffence in the grapes used to make this one. A great entry into what I call "Super Wines" that are high dollar and you only get to try once in a while...at least I do. Worth it in my opinion.

Set between the picturesque village of Séguret and Mont Ventoux, Domaine de Mourchon was established by the McKinlay family in 1998 with the purchase of 17 hectares of mature vines. Constructed to the highest modern standards, the new winery was completed in 2000. Our TERRACED HILLSIDE VINEYARD, at an average altitude of 350m, is predominately clay and grey limestone which, combined with its microclimate, gives this location a terroir of unique quality. Careful husbandry using natural and organic techniques - ‘culture raisonée’ as it is known in France - in conjunction with combined traditional and advanced methods of vinification, results in a well structured wine with pronounced fruit aromas and strong colours. Now receiving international recognition and praise, we invite you to discover Domaine de Mourchon and its wines. Read less

Salmon colored. Floral and papaya notes. Not enough acid, but decent flavors of red fruit. Not very elegant but very drinkable for summer 85 pts

The winery is on top of a hill in the village of Provencal Seguret, located in southern Cotes du Rhone. It’s a fairly new winery, founded in 1998 with existing vineyards. They make three lines of wine, and the “Grand Reserve” is a blend of Grenache and Syrah from old vines. Here is what you can expect from Domaine de Mourchon 2006 “Grande Reserve” Cotes du Rhone Villages. Look: The rich purple of an advent candle burning for Christmas. Smell: The makings a fine fruit cake with nutmeg, toasty cinnamon, fennel, raspberries and plums simmering on the stove. Taste: This wine is a holiday feast of jammy black cherries, currant, white pepper and carpaccio. Its medium body moves from fruit to earth before a mid-length finish of smooth tannins. My favorite wine is "Domaine De Mourchon" which region is Cotes du Rhone village segurnet. One day I've met such the wonderful wine in Japan. It's very hard to find out what I want to have a wine about French, because of so far from Japan to France. It's getting expensive besides, these qualities will deteriorate with age.So now, I'm exploring why I like about Rhone. There're Grenache of over 50% in Rhone which grapes are always blended with some grapes. Generally in Rhone is blended with Syrah and some grapes. I love their combination. My palate is rich, strong with elegant fruit intensity. I like these describe. It's not only wine but human character. It makes me knock out what I want to be. In additional, I've heard where is one of the best inexpensive red wines in the world. Perfect! Awesome!!!!! I love "Guigal cotes du Rhone Rouge" in Rhone though. and I wanna try some wine about Vacqueyras which is much cheaper than Gigondas.

Saturated, opaque purple hue from core to rim. Heady aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, ink, graphite and spice box. The dark berry motif continues on the palate, with bold strokes of flavor and a fleshy, full mouthfeel. Secondary notes of garrigue,... Tracey Rose. The color of the 2009 Seguret Grande Reserve (a blend of 65% concrete-aged Grenache and 35% oak barrel-aged Syrah from 60-year-old vines) is not dissimilar from the Syrah cuvee, a deep ruby/purple with blue tints. The 2009 Seguret Grande Reserve is stunning. Dense ruby/purple, with viscous, glycerin-imbued flavors of roasted herbs, pepper, and oodles of black cherry liqueur, this wine is full-bodied, opulent and generously endowed.
