Mountford Estate Pinot Noir Wairarapa 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The Wine Advocate review:
The 2007 Pinot Noir shows a little more ripeness and exoticism on the nose, smudged at first but gaining clarity with aeration. The palate has more weight and concentration than the 2006, black cherry, plum and black olive on the entry, sturdy tannins yet retaining finesse with a primal, brooding finish. Great potential.

There are winemakers and then there is the one and only CP Lin, Mountfords blind winemaker. This is someone who puts his neck on the line when it comes to winemaking and I have found his wines to be either valiant failures or stunning successes. Whatever you may think, it is always exciting to open a bottle of Mountford and New Zealand needs people like CP.
(Neal Martin - Wine Advocate - Issue #184 - Sep 2009)

Early pioneers of the wine industry in the South West of Western Australia, the Mountford family selected Pemberton with its high winter rainfall for the unique flavour potential possible from this cooler and largely forested region. Trained horticulturist Andrew Mountford was looking for a region as yet undiscovered in Australia and chose the site of the vineyard based upon the combination of soil, climate, topography and of course most importantly the right feel. Eighty acres of undulating country gave all the variables needed for this dream and a fifteen acre vineyard was planted. Obvious cool climate conditions, amongst the coolest in Western Australia were suitable for Andrew and Sue Mountford's passion for the classic early ripening varieties; Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. In this regions short history these varieties have proven more than any other to be the correct selection. Established in 1987 and now one of the regions oldest vineyards, these vines are producing fruit with true intensity and complexity. This is due to careful organic vineyard practice since inception and continual sound environmental care. These practices have enabled expression from vineyard to bottle ensuring all the wines retain their essence of place. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
