Deep ruby in color. Concentrated ripe cherry, black currant and plum aromas interlaced with complex notes of dark chocolate, clove and toasty oak and build a complementary blend of enticing aromas. Full and textural, hints of nutmeg and vanilla bean add to the long persistent finish. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 4% Petite Verdot, 1% Malbec and 1% Syrah
Editorial Reviews for Mount Veeder Winery Napa Valley Cabernet
Opaque and showing a little age. This is smoky and grilled beefy on the nose with a nice combination of sweet black plum and blackcurrant fruit, smoky herbs, soil tones and vanilla oak. A little tight still in the mouth with tannins that are softly austere supporting a rich, savory core of fruit. There's still a lot of mineral earth and some wood toast here but the fruit, wild blueberry and currant toned with a little bitter chocolate streak to it is emerging on the midplate along with a hint of truffle that persists through the long finish. Still a bit tough and edgy this is a fine rendition of mountain cabernet with length and a touch of throw back rusticity. 91pts
The wine is a deep brooding, inky color that's so classic of a great Napa Cabernet. The nose is a lovely combination of leather, cassis, baking spice and just a hint of mint. The taste is just classic, a rush of ripe black fruit, blackberry, plum and a bit of coriander that transition effortlessly to some spice notes of vanilla bean and anise midpalate. The finish is ideal, with some young tannins providing nice backbone for the long, smooth and exceptionally dry finish. Just a classic Napa Cabernet! Nice Cabernet. Rich and smooth. Cheers!
Four and a half glasses
Lots of blue in the color makes it a nice purple. Nose is somewhat minty, and I’m getting a hint of licorice. On the tongue, there is a pleasant cassis flavor that is not overwhelming. Very firm tannin remove fruitiness. There is some sort of “olive” flavor way in the back of the palate, but it diminishes quickly. It does not seem to appear in subsequent tastes.
The wine is like many good Napa cabs, very deep ruby color, almost inky in the glass. The nose is a wonderfully rich blend of leather, blackberry, cherry and anise that speaks to the richness of the wine, and feel free to let it open up a bit in the glass, my hint is to have a glass or two while I am making dinner, so it's perfect by the time I sit down to eat. The taste is a lovely fruit forward blend of ripe berries, plum and fresh herbs, giving way to some spicy notes midpalate, as the flavors play against each other and add a bit of complexity. The nicely structured tannins provide for a long, dry, velvety finish that makes this wine a treat by itself. The wine is dense and concentrated, which is indicative of the small vines, low yields, and tiny berries of the mountainside locale. The dark, brambly fruit and sweet herbal notes evoke the forest and bay trees adjacent to the vineyards.
Deep ruby. Aromas of ripe black currant, dark cherry, and lilac interlace with black pepper, bay leaves, coffee, and toasted oak to create a rich, dense nose. Powerful, rich, and textured notes of dark cherry, ripe plum, caramel, and vanilla flavors weave
Concentrated aromas of blackberry, dark chocolate, anise, and bay, highlighted with notes of coffee and currants. Very full-bodied, plushy and dense. Rich and round mouthfeel with intense flavors of cassis and black cherry. Good structure and well-balance
Mount Veeder is a magical place a rare and beautiful spot where vines cling to the steep hillsides, producing tiny, concentrated berries that give our wines their big, bold, brambly fruit character.
Pleasant loamy earth, dried herb and cedar notes shadow dried currant and savory herb flavors. Full-bodied and complete, if shy on extra facets. Drink now through 2018.
Mount Veeder Winery has their vines planted up to 1600 feet on slopes resembling a large staircase. They enjoy a microclimate of fog, cool mountain nights and warm days.
A good wine to drink now for its sweet, ripe berry and mocha flavors and smoky coat of oak. It has smooth tannins and a spicy finish. Give it a good decant to let it breathe for a few hours.
