Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2006
Very dark and attractive in the glass. "Hefty" nose--earthy with hints of spice. Very nice on the palate. The texture seems satiny smooth. Some cassis and peppercorn flavors. Tannins appear to have been tamed. Nice acid. This looks like a good food wine. US$27.99 at Total Wine in 2010.
A little pepper, spice and currants on the nose, a lot of earthy aromas. The palate offers a tannic punch with layers of dark fruit/berries combined with dark chocolate, full in body and needs some time. This was my 4th wine tasted at the Franciscan winery and was paired with a Vella Dry Jack Cheese, a very powerful cheese.
Deep garnet in color, light staining on the tears. Nose of dark cherry, blackberry, black currents & tobacco with a hint of smokey wood. Palate flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, chocolate. Good structure and well-balanced, with fine tannins and a medium plus finish with notes of smoke and vanilla.
Nose of canned cherries, currants. Thick and rich flavor with heavy tannins. Enjoyable now, but will get better with age.

Red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, cassis, blackberry, chocolate and loam. Supple, primary flavors of dark berries and tobacco; acids are ripe and nicely integrated. May well develop more complexity with bottle aging. Finishes with firm but not excessive tannins and lingering fruit.
There's a wonderful richness, depth and complexity to this California Cabernet, with its layers of earthy currant, mushroom, cedar, clay, tar and leather. made in a big, chewy and rustic style it just needs short-term cellaring. Best from 2001 through 2009.
Dark, dense, chewy and chunky, with tightly wound currant, coffee, mocha and pencil lead flavors, finishing in a rich aftertaste. Drink now through 2010.
Deep ruby hue. Moderately full-bodied. Balanced acidity. Moderately extracted. Mildly oaked. Mildly tannic. Red fruits, brown spices, minerals. Forward aromas reveal well-integrated fruit and wood flavors. Soft and supple, with generosity and elegance. Well balanced and lengthy.
Ripe, juicy cherry and plum flavors counterbalance the earthy tannins. Turns simple on the finish. Drink now through 2006.
Oaky and ripe; full of blackberry, cherry and chocolaty fruit, with complex nuances of green olives and sweet, fresh herbs. You can feel the dusty tannins in your gums on the finish, but they're ripe and fine. Showy now, and should age effortlessly through the decade.
Expresses the lush, concentrated fruit character of mountain estate-grown Cabernet. Modest tannins add structure and depth without overpowering the intense berry flavors of the wine.
