Bold at first, with passion fruit and funky flavors, with a very clean and crisp, citrus-like finish. Embodies all my favorite characteristics of a Marlborough Sauv Blanc.
I really like Mt. Nelson! It's got some of the subtlety of good white burgundy; less citrus than many other Kiwi SBs. It's not cheap, but I've found it in the $13-15 range by shopping carefully, and once for $11 ib close out.
Nose: The first thing that hit me was a lot of passionfruit/mango-y-ness. Maybe a little kiwi. I have read about a "celery" note in some reviews of Sauv. blancs, and I think I may know what they are talking about here. Taste - Lime-y, lemongrass-y, kinda floral. A hint of celery Finish - almost a sweet and sour type of finish without the bite and a bit of saltiness. I quite like this wine.

Clear and bright with pale green and straw highlights. Fragrant and intense with passion fruit, grapefruit and lime on the nose. An excellent balance between crisp acidity and concentration with a long, clean finish.

Tasting Notes - Clear and bright with pale green and straw highlights. Fragrant and intense with passion fruit, grapefruit and lime on the nose. An excellent balance between crisp acidity and concentration with a long, clean finish. Winemaker Notes - Sixty percent of the fruit for Mount Nelson Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the estate s vineyard, which is situated just 18 meters (60 feet) above sea level on the banks of Taylor River near the mouth of Cloudy Bay. The soil consists of free-draining alluvial loams over deep, stony river deposits. Thirteen hectares (32 acres) are planted to the single varietal, Sauvignon Blanc, using mass selected clones. The remaining fruit is purchased from the adjoining Meadowbank vineyard.
A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2009 Mount Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 750ml
Bright pale yellow. Pungent aromas of grapefruit, pepper, anise and flowers. Juicy, dense and intense, with excellent penetration to the grapefruit, soft citrus and fresh herb flavors. As dry and bracing as this is, there's solid palate-coating textu... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2009 Mount Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 750ml
Winemaker's Notes:
Clear and bright with pale green and straw highlights. Fragrant and intense with passion fruit, grapefruit and lime on the nose. An excellent balance between crisp acidity and concentration with a long, clean finish. Alcohol 13.0%. Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 90 points by Wine Enthusiast: A joint venture between Tuscany’s Ludovico and Piero Antinori, Mount Nelson’s 2010 is a fresh, herbal rendering of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Treble notes of tomato leaf and bell pepper predominate, with grapefruit providing the bass.
