Mount Fishtail Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2012

Member Review by aronowm2:

Prototypical NZ sauvignon blanc. Not as overt as most, but still a great pairing for shrimp alfredo. Very strong ruby red grapefruit essence.

Mount Fishtail vineyard is fully owned by the Hengstler family, Konrad, Sigrun and their two sons, Conrad and Carlo. The Hengstlers originally migrated from Germany to Melbourne in Australia, where they settled for a period of over 20 years. While travelling through New Zealand, Konrad discovered Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and was immediately attracted to this outstanding wine. From that point, the decision to move to Marlborough and become involved in the wine industry was an easy one. The family planted their first vines in 1996 and produce a range of wines from their two vineyards in the Wairau and Waihopai Valleys, totalling 40 hectares. Every year, after fermentation, wines from the two distinctly different sites are used for the blend of Mount Fishtail Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, giving the family the opportunity to maintain the same high quality and consistent flavours year after year. Quality is the absolute focus of Konrad and it starts in the vineyard where no corners are cut, and continues in the winery where ‘handcrafting’ is the applied standard. Being a family-run business, control over quality is truly ‘hands on’. Konrad’s philosophy is ’the best fertilizer is the foot of the farmer’. Through every day personal involvement, a focus on quality, and a commitment to reasonable pricing, the result is simple…value for money for the customer. Read less

This is a delightfully fresh, classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with typical aromas of grapefruit and gooseberry. The palate offers flavors of passion fruit and melon, balanced by crisp acidity and a touch of sweetness. The wine is well structured and has a pleasing and lengthy finish. Ideal with shellfish and Asian food dishes.

Fragrant and focused, with tangy intensity to lime, grass, guava and sea salt flavors. Drink now.

A brilliant, pale straw green colour. Fresh, uplifting gooseberry and citrus aromas develop into more exotic guava and mango notes. The palate equally overflows with grapefruit and lush tropical fruits, tangy acidity and just a hint of sweetness to round out the mouth. A classic Marlborough statement.

A brilliant, pale straw green colour. Typical Marlborough Sauvignon aromas of grapefruit, box wood, pea-pods, tobacco & tomato leaf with an intriguing gooseberry yoghurt like complexity. The palate is fresh and full of vigour. Flavours of passionfruit, melon & grapefruit are balanced by limey acidity and good fruit sweetness. The palate is well structured and tapers to a long, lingering finish. A classic Marlborough statement.
