Moss Wood Red Bordeaux Blend Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot Ribbon Vale 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

This is regarded as one of the finest Cabernets to come out of the New World for both drinkers and collectors alike. Generally deemed as their best ever vintage, Robert Parker writes the following about the 2001 vintage; "It is undeniable - the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon blows away its siblings. The winery’s flagship offering, it spends 22 months in French oak, of which 50% is new, and includes a small percentage of Merlot (5-6%) in the blend. A terrific Margaret River Cabernet, it boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as a big bouquet of creme de cassis intermixed with licorice, vanilla, and spice box. Medium to full-bodied, layered, but subtle, it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age, and keep for over a decade.”

Moss Wood is a premium wine producer located in the Margaret River Wine region of Western Australia. The area is regarded as one of Australia's premium grape growing regions. Since 1984 Clare and Keith Mugford have consistently sought and applied new knowledge and technology to enhance grape and wine quality at Moss Wood. Together they have created a stable of wines that are distinguished by their consistency over many vintages and their ability to age superbly. Over the years as the company has grown, so too has the team who are all dedicated to the same pursuit of excellence. The wines produced at Moss Wood are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Semillon and from Moss Wood's Ribbon Vale Vineyard: Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Merlot and Merlot. Also produced is a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine, Amy’s, from Glenmore Vineyard in Yallingup and Montgomery Brothers Vineyard in Cowaramup. Unwavering for nearly forty years the vision for Moss Wood is that of uncompromising quality, constantly seeking to produce the perfect fruit and flawless great wine. In an era of corporatisation within the Australian wine industry, Moss Wood has remained a small family run business whose development has been driven by winemaking and viticultural pursuit of excellence, rather than shifting consumer trend. Owners Keith and Clare Mugford enjoy the challenge of consistently producing high quality wines at Moss Wood. All decisions made in the vineyard and winery are based on the effect they will have on the quality of the wine. Read less
