Moshin Vineyards and Winery began in 1989 as the dream of Rick Moshin, a San Jose State University math instructor – and with theMoshin Family’s purchase of a ten-acre Pinot Noir Vineyard located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, California. The Moshin Vineyards of today features a unique 4-tier Gravity Flow Winery and control of 28 acres of grapes – mostly Pinot Noir. The tasting room is open daily to the public and tours of the winery can be made by appointment. There is a $5.00 tasting fee. You may choose up to 5 wines to taste. Tasting fee waived with wine purchase. Wine Club Members ~Complimentary. Wine of the Week- L.A. Times Moshin Vineyards is located in the Russian River Valley in Northwest Sonoma County. The 10 acre estate vineyard has recently been added to with 2 acres adjacent to the winery. This little vineyard has iron-rich soil and is farmed biodynamically. The foggy mornings and warm, sunny afternoons make this location ideal for growing well-balanced Pinot Noir. Suppliers of grapes to many of the best Pinot producers in the valley for years, Moshin now uses the grapes from their estate vineyard for their own label. The vines are comprised of many different clones, including Dijon 115, Rochioli, Swan and Romanée Conti, all hand pruned and had harvested. Rick Moshin’s winemaking philosophy reflects as much of Mother Nature as possible. The new winery, completed in 2005, is a four-tier, gravity flow facility, where grapes, juice and wine are handled as gently as possible and never have to be pumped. This 2006 Estate Pinot is an unbridled success. It shows rich color and concentrated dark fruit with notes of spice, rhubarb, plums and crushed violets. On the palate are bright cherry and cranberry flavors with beautifully balanced acidity and a hint of oak, all stretching into a long finish. Only 750 cases were produced.
