Roland Velich's Moric winery has revolutionized the world of Blaufrankisch wines. A niche wine maker producing less than 2,500 cases of their most basic wine (the regular Blaufrankisch), and fewer than 700 cases of the celebrated Neckenmarkt and Alte Reben Blaufrankisch wines, Moric has nonetheless received wide acclaim. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded Moric the most points ever received by an Austrian wine.

Boy was this beautiful! I loved everything about this wine. Burgundy in Austria! The nose smells like a farmer's hands with a touch of wet earth, a hint of nutty pipe tobacco and rushed black fruits with just an edge of sappy bark. In the mouth this is pure, elegant and refined with a wonderfully fresh fruited, grape/black cherry. black currant fruit is presented in a crisp, tense, perfectly balanced package. Killer wine 93pts

Light red fruits and a bit of spice, cranberries, a hint of coffee and much darker than I expected. Medium to high, well integrated acidity.

Pure. Lean and acidic, this is a very classically styled wine. Bitter cherries dominate. Would work well with food, given its balance and length.

From a young estate (founded in 2001) comes this extraordinary example of Blaufränkisch. The nose offers pronounced graphite notes along with dark fruits and hints of chocolate. The estate's name "Moric" is of Hungarian origin and pronounced "Moritz."

With this wine, it is truly a challenge to decide which is more amazing, the nose or the palate. The nose gives intense dark berry and floral, violet notes. The palate is focused with well-integrated tannins that indicate great potential to age. Fortunately the only decision one needs to make is the decision to take a bottle home. The wine is aged for 18-20 months in oak but woodiness doesn't show on the nose or palate. Cellar or decant for best results.

Mittleres Rubingranat, in der Nase zarte Dörrobstanklänge, am Gaumen frische Frucht, dunkle Beeren und gutes Lagerpotenzial.
