What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

The promise of high-quality Chardonnay is what first attracted Morgan’s Dan Lee to the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County. He bought land there in 1996 and planted mostly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (along with about an acre of Syrah). Although Lee’s Pinots are getting a lot of the attention these days, he still makes superb Chardonnay, including this bottling called Highland. Slightly more than half of the grapes are from Lee’s Double L Vineyard, which is farmed organically; the remainder are from other vineyards in the appellation, including Rosella’s and Lucia Highlands. read more...

As we continue to refine our style, having all elements of the wine in harmony is our primary focus. The nose includes fruit characteristics of citrus, apple and honeysuckle along with toasty vanilla notes from barrel contact. Medium in body, yet rich in flavor, the wine finishes on a crisp, clean note with good length.

Rich and intense, with splendid integration of fruit flavors, oak, minerality and acidity that is a hallmark of well-made S-L-H Chard.
