Morgan Sauvignon Blanc 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Winemaker Tasting Notes: The color is a brilliant light straw yellow with green highlights. The aromas and flavors include lemongrass, pink grapefruit, nectarine, mango, passion fruit, lime, nutmeg and a light mineral touch. The wine finishes with a lengthy, refreshing acidity and a bright, fruitful character. The light to medium weight texture complements the bright, accessible fruitiness of the wine and its refreshing acidity. Winemaking Notes: The wine was entirely tank fermented, capturing bright fruit flavors. Eighty-five percent of the must was transferred to Bordeaux barrels, of which 8% were new, for 5 months of aging. The barrel time develops complexity and mouth-feel. The blend is composed over several tastings and evaluations of the individual lots, with the final determination in April 2007. Vineyard Notes: We build complexity into Sauvignon Blanc with the addition of Semillon and Sauvignon Musque. The Semillon adds richness and depth of flavor and is a counter to the herb and sweet grass character of Sauvignon Blanc. In 2006, Semillon comprised 12% of the blend. The Sauvignon Musque is a clonal variety of Sauvignon Blanc that we prize for its aromatic intensity and gooseberry, citrus, tropical fruit, and melon flavors. Musque has flourished in Monterey, and comprises 63% of this vintage. Sauvignon Blanc is the remaining 25% of the blend, and offers the traditional sweet grass flavors. Cooler appellation fruit from the Arroyo Seco works well with the warmer San Lucas appellation fruit. Vintage Notes: The 2006 vintage ran about a month later than normal, due to a cold, wet spring that delayed the fruit set. The summer weather was typical for the region. Harvest was finished by late September. Technical Notes: Appellation: Monterey Alcohol : 13.5% pH : 3.25 TA: 7.4 g/L Aging: 5 months Oak: 8% new Bordeaux Barrels Release: Spring 2007 Return to Morgan wine list

Bone dry with good acidity and fruit. A very nice seafood/appetizer wine.
