Morgadio Albarino Rias Baixas 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Coconut oil-tinged ripe peach on the nose with a squirt of pithy grapefruit and aniseed top notes. This is soft and fairly rich on entry though the firm acids really pop on the mid-palate. Richly flavored with deep peachy fruit, this lacks just a touch of verve on the palate. 89pts

Lemon pith, clay soil, chalk, apricot and green apple notes on the subtle nose. Zesty and fruity in the mouth with a blanket of soft fruit covering a vibrant vein of citrus, tangerine, and pear fruit that yield to sweet lime and mineral tones on the soft, long finish. This is not lacking in acid by any stretch but does have a rounded quality that makes it a bit softer than many Albarinos. The finish really exhibits fine purity to the fruit. 88pts

Light sea air note on the nose. It's not a very fragrant wine. Has nice flavors of pear, toasted almond, grapefruit and has great acidity. It's crisp on the palate and has a nice salinity inherently suited to pair with seafood. Nice, juicy acid on the finish. 4/21/12

Bright floral and peachy nose, with some oak notes. The mouth is smooth, lightly acidic, with some nice sugars filling out the body. The release is slow and compounds the oak flavors.

Nice front of peach with a high minerality. Very nice and one I would drink again.

Wild flowers and stone aromas. Dry with citrus notes. Neutral and medium body like typical Spanish or Italian white.

Lime biscuit nose, with a trace of mineral. Lots of lime and mineral on the palate, with the acidity balanced by a richness in body. Might be a touch past its prime, but in no way over the hill.

Very crisp and smooth, a bit like biting into an apple. I could taste hints of black pepper.

The 2005 Morgadio Albarino is medium straw-colored with an intense perfume of honey, spring flowers, and peach. On the palate the wine exhibits excellent ripeness, concentration and a supple texture. It has enough stuffing to accompany richly sauced fish courses and white meats.

Bright straw. Dusty, mineral-accented citrus and green apple aromas are complicated by anise and white flowers. Firm, tightly wound lime and lemongrass flavors are underscored by talc and quinine qualities, which add back-end cut. Finishes with nervy lift and lingering minerality. This would be great with raw oysters.

Lively and graceful, this light white offers jasmine, peach and lime flavors with vivid acidity. A lovely aperitif. Drink now.

The legacy of the Morgadio estate has been to introduce ripe, balanced wines from the prized Albarino grape of the cool and misty Mino River valley. Refreshing peach and citrus flavors show why this wine is the ideal choice for enjoying with fish, clams and calamari.
