Morande 'Pionero' Pinot Noir 2009

Member Review by sheepdog:

For the under $8 price tag, I was pleased with the Pinot Noir character and flavors. The nose is distinctly Pinot Noir and true to the grape type continuing on though to the finish. The 14.5% alcohol results in some heat and bitterness in the finish. Although the label indicated 8 months of oak in oak, there is no detectable trace of oak on the palate. Hey, for 8 bucks it may not be Burgundian but it is a bargain.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Formerly not a big Pinot Noir fan, this bottle excites me! A lushes ruby color. On the nose berries, strawberries, and sulfur. It had a thin feeling in the mouth, but the flavors deliver. Blueberries and strawberries. A robust acidity with soft tannins, quite elegant.

This Pinot Noir is an excellent wine for the price. The pale pink color makes you think it is going to be all fruit, but it has a good nose and exceptional balance for a wine in this price range. I loved it and will stock up, but might not break it out for special occasions.
