The 2004 Paros Reserve is a blend of Mandilaria and Monemvasia aged for 15 months in oak. Too nuanced by oak on opening, this comes around pretty nicely with a little air. It is modestly concentrated with a modest finish, seeming a bit hollow at times, but bright and rather elegant, with a slight sour cherry note on the finish. It is very pleasant for every day drinking and loaded with charm, likely to be a crowd pleaser at a reasonable price point. There were 1,000 cases produced. Drink nowndash;2013.
You will be amazed to find out that the Paros Reserve Red contains 60% white juice as you notice the opaque purple color of the wine in your glass. Black cherry and olive brine are most prevalent on the nose, with underlying aromas of white peach and caramel as well, due largely in part to the Monemvasia. Mouth-ripping tannins are joined by notes of sour cherry and cigar box; the cigar box notes carry onto the lasting finish. This wine would appeal to any Italian red wine drinker, or anyone looking for a very unique yet well-made wine.
