Moon Curser Afraid of the Dark 2012

Member Review by zufrieden:

This wonderful white wine with the year-round Halloween motif for a label evokes the northern Rhone with a scent of pineapple, lychee, peach and tisane (herb tea). The entry is viscous, oily, slightly sweet with white pepper and herbal notes on the palate. Finishes quite long. A truly fine, well balanced Okanagan wine with a European touch. 89 points. Good value too! Second tasting.

Although there are many British Columbia Whites to taste from the 2012 vintage, this number comes off the best so far; the nose is dominated by what appear to be Viognier-nuanced scents such as tropical honey, stone fruit (peach) with a touch of tisane (turpene-rich). On the palate, there is ginger, pear, chamomile and herb tea. Mouth--feel is fat, rich (without being sticky), Southern Rhone and precise. Excellent work. 89 points.

Moon Curser Vineyards is the current incarnation of Twisted Tree Vineyards but with commensurate wine-making wizardry. The Rhone white varieties of Roussanne (a personal favorite of mine), Marsanne and Viognier are the three components of this subtle concoction. Don't be distracted by the lycanthropy message in the label (after all, Avignon is not far off - at least in spirit); this wine tastes like Hermitage Blanc - though more Rousanne and less Viognier might be a gentle suggestion. This direction is the right direction. Recommended - if you are so fortunate as to find it in your locale.
