Winemakers Notes
The grapes came from the MontGras Estate vineyards in the Colchagua Valley. MontGras Carmenère Reserva is made from this little known French grape variety, which was originally grown in Bordeaux for use in the classic blend of the region. In the 1800s it was brought to Chile and has since thrived, although it is seldom seen outside Chile. Through recent genetic testing of vines, we have discovered that much of what was originaly thought of as Chilean Merlot, is in fact Carmenere, easily mistaken as here it produces soft, full and rounded red wines, of which MontGras is an excellent example. Reviews for 2008 Vintage
Very nice old world style wine. Dry & complex with mineral undertones and a nice finish.
I really liked this wine. It was dark, rich, nice chioce for a rainy afternoon.
This was a heavy wine with lots of green tannin. Tasted at Geneva wine tasting 4/18/2010.
I really enjoyed this one. It had a beautiful darkness too it and was a medium/heavy wine in my book. Had great spice and fruit with a little bit of mineral in it.
Wilfred Wong from BevMo gave this wine 92 pts.
Big disappointment. I'd give it about an 86-87. Too spicy and too acidic.
The wine had a luscious, deep purple color and very visible legs. On the nose, there was an abundance of black fruit and baking spices aromas—mostly all-spice and cinnamon. There was also just the slightest hint of vanilla. In the mouth, the black fruit flavors took a back seat to the spice cabinet, with nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla being the most prominent. As the flavors lingered, a toastiness emerged to round out and bind the flavors together.

Burnt underbrush and red fruit on the meaty nose. Very light tannins and acid - flabby but juicy. Simple plummy black fruit. A touch of pencil lead. $13
