Montgras Antu Ninquen Syrah 2010

External Review by Palm Bay International:

Antu Syrah 2012 - 94 Points, James Suckling/ I like the plum pie, smoke and floral aromas that follow through to a full body with super silky tannins and a light chocolate and berry finish. Very polished Syrah. Drink now.

Premium Wines Crafted With a Personal Touch The beautifully neat vineyards of MontGras, in the locality of Palmilla, Colchagua, VI Region of Chile, represent the concrete testimony of the development and the desire to do things right that have always characterized the Gras brothers, Hernán and Eduardo, along with partner Cristián Hartwig. Inspired by Hernán Gras, who has a brilliant winemaking trajectory in Canada, along with the entrepreneurial vision of his brother Eduardo and Hartwig's pragmatic businesses view, who comes from a winemaking family and who in addition has strong bonds with Colchagua, joined together to give to life to Viña MontGras in 1993, the first project of MontGras Properties. MontGras, that has always had state-of-the-art technology in all its processes, set out from its conception to be the winery with the best premium wine from Chile. It is no accident then, the great amount of international prizes that have recognized the professional work, the constant quality and the innovation of MontGras wines. In this, like corporative culture, people have been key. As Hernán Gras, Chairman of the Board says, "our philosophy has to do with producing quality Chilean wines at exceptional value, which reflect the specific terroir from where the grape come from. Although we count on the equipment and the technology, it is definitively our people that make the difference. To create a wine is a true art in which all the senses are used." Read less

Viña MontGras, in Chile’s Colchagua Valley, was established in 1992 by brothers Hernán and Eduardo Gras along with their partner Cristián Hartwig. The fruit of a mission to produce estate-grown wines of exceptional quality and originality, the MontGras estate encompasses over 200 hectares planted to vine in the heart of Chile’s wine-producing region. Since the first harvest in the early 1990s, MontGras wines have earned hundreds of medals and awards worldwide, garnering international critical acclaim. The limited production Antu range takes its name from the word for “sun” in the language of the ancient Mapuche people who once inhabited this part of Chile. “This is MontGras exploratory range of wines. This is where we can work with both classic and new varieties for Chile, from various origins; where we can innovate, explore, play and even break the rules. Here we confirm that tradition and innovation are not contradictory, because at MontGras, winemaking is about improving something that is already good in essence.” --Santiago Margozzini, Lead Winemaker, MontGras. Production Area Colchagua Valley, Chile. Grape Varieties 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 25% Carignan. Vinification Grapes are hand harvested at the end of April and beginning of May and are subjected to a cold soak over 4 days. Total skin contact is 21 days. The wine is aged 16 months in new French oak barrels before bottling. Color Deep ruby Bouquet Ripe and intense aromas of raspberries and strawberries. Subtle aromas of cedar and vanilla from the old oak ageing give an elegant frame to the aromatic profile of this wine. Taste Rich, juicy and spicy. Berry notes along with roasted nuts and honey from the Carignan. A structured wine fluid texture and lingering finish. Alcohol 14% Serving Suggestions Complements red meats, lamb, stews, poultry and hard cheeses.
