What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

A hot alcoholic, yet intensely plummy nose. Its over 15% alcohol, so be warned. Literally dripping with ripe fruit - very rich and jammy throughout - lots of bright cherries, plums and blue berries. Hot again on the finish, but other than that really enjoyable.

Tasting NotesTerra d'Oro 2006 Zinfandel is a shining example of Amador Zinfandel. We don't have to coerce character and spice from the fruit, nor do we beat it back. Dark berry fruit is generously seasoned with characteristic Shenandoah Spice. The different oak styles lend molasses, vanilla and cinnamon to a balanced lingering finish. Sweet and spicy are two classic culinary combinations.
