MONTEVERTINE lies within the heart of the Chianti hills, in the community of Radda at an altitude of 425 m above sea level. Documents show that the site has been dwelled since the 11th century. Traces of the original construction, which undoubtedly was of defensive nature and which later on had been converted to a rural housing, are still preserved. Our wine-making procedure is extremely traditional and it has been never been varied since the very first vintage. The grapes are harvested by hand and then fermented in glazed cement vats, without temperature control, and the must is topped up twice daily in order to keep the top marc moist and to obtain a slow extraction of the tannins from the skins. After the racking off, the malolactic fermentation is also carried out using cement vats. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, our wines are stored in wooden barrels over a period of approximately two years. The wines will never be filtered and the topping-up method, without any pumps, is used for the bottling. For the ageing of our wines we use oak barrels from Slavonia with a 5.5 to 18 hectolitre capacity and 225 litre Allier casks. Read less

Tight on the nose with some BBQ spice and oystershell minerality layered under perfumes of fennel seed and flowers. Much more open in the mouth than the nose would suggest with a hint of sweetness helping to frame transparent raspberry and strawberry fruit. This is classic mid-weight Sangiovese. A bit simple today but with lovely fruit the superb structural blanche that is the hallmark of the 2010 vintage. Elegant and pretty 91pts

Very balsamic on the nose and very fresh with grassy notes, a bit of terpene, and emerging floral tones. In the mouth this is very young and disjointed with edgy acids and a bit of heat on the finish. The midpalate shows some nice cherry fruit but this comes off as short, simple and lean tonight. This needs time to come together. Judgment reserved

Deep and earthy on the nose with tremendous floral tones and smoky, slightly spicy tones of dried berries. This is a mouth filling wine with slightly astringent tannins that add nice grab in the mouth. Floral and dark up front with notes of hibiscus, earth, and bitter cherry on the mid-palate that lead to a long strawberry toned finish. This is a bit hard, and tightens up with air, but it exhibits all the raw materials needed to improve in the cellar. 89pts

Definitely one of the better Chianti's i've had and will have to try again for a more accurate review. But the nose is of smooth black cherry with a body on the lighter-side-of-medium that is very easy and pleasing.

A lovely translucent garnet color, this shows beautiful aromatics from the start. A little closed at first, notes of cherry and cola emerge with air, along with sweet florals and a touch of orange zest. This sangiovese is surprisingly powerful and fu... Geoffrey Binder. The 2009 Montevertine comes across as more classic than the Pergole Torte. Firm yet well-integrated tannins support expressive sweet red cherries, freshly cut flowers and mint. The 2007 Le Pergole Torte (Sangiovese) is a rock star wine, and then some. The sheer integrity and purity of the fruit is breathtaking, as is frankly everything about this wine. A wine that needs time to show what it has. Starts off slowly, then develops on the palate. Full and powerful. Like a top Brunello. Sangiovese. Drink now through 2015. Wine Spectator. A Sangiovese wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2007 Montevertine Le Pergole Torte Vino da Tavola 750ml

The 2007 Montevertine is a joyous wine. Medium in body yet irresistibly opulent, the 2007 Montevertine presents a rich fabric of red fruit framed by silky, impossibly fine tannins. Unlike the 2006 which was much firmer at this stage, the 2007 is ripe... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Sangiovese wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2007 Montevertine 750ml
