User Reviews for Montes Syrah Colchagua Valley Alpha
Add your reviewOustanding Chilean syrah in the French style. Deep ruby in color. Powerful aromas of black pepper, currants, and a touch of fresh green bell pepper. Palate of black fruits, pepper, and roasted meats reminiscent of CdP. Peppery, spicy finish with a hint of clove. Lots of complexity for the price. Wish I had more. Will seek out the '04.

Winemaker's Notes:
Description: Vintage 2003 was warm and very dry, permitting a very adequate and early growth to maturity. The Syrah grapes were hand picked from the steep slopes in perfect conditions of health and ripeness. The wine has a beautiful deep rubi red color. To the nose, with quiet glass, intense cassis and berries are feeling. When the glass is stirring we find notes that remember dry fruits, marmalade, vanilla very well integrated and dark mature fruits . In the mouth, the wine has sweet and soft tannins, and besides is equilibrated .gentle, rounded, robust, wide and dense with a very long lasting palate. The Montes Folly style is unbeatable. Denomination of Origin: Santa Cruz (Colchagua). All grapes come from a single vineyard, our famous “La Finca de Apalta” Estate. For Montes Folly they come from the highest and steepest slopes (over 45%), known to grow the best red Chilean wines. Oak Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels, all new. Filtering: This wine is not filtered. Unfiltered. Yield of Vineyard: About 3 ton per hectare (equivalent to 1.5 tons per acre) Grape Variety: Syrah 100% Cellaring Recommendations: Montes Folly can be fully enjoyed right now but will improve over a long cellaring of up to 20 years. Recommended Serving Temperature: 18º C (17º C – 19º C). Decanting: Decant for at least an hour for better enjoyment, allowing the wine to open up.
