Montes Syrah Alpha 2012
Yes, this is definitely a Syrah. Who would think that this was Chilean? Deep red fruits such as blackberries waft up from the glass, along with some sweet spice that is just screaming for a steak marinated in Worcestershire sauce and sweet chilis. The finish has loads of spice and California plums, making this wine a must-have.Add winemaker's notes
Had this at CRU at Love Field while waiting for my flight. A very interesting bottle, but not at all like the following Wine Makers' Notes: 'Color: Intense red with purple highlights. Aroma: Complex and expressive, subtly mixed with aromas of violets and cherries, in balance with the dark chocolate notes and toasted flavor from its oak aging. Palate: Elegant and balanced. Warm, Sweet and smooth impact with marked tannins. Mouth-filling. His weight on the palate translates cherry notes into jam and sweet tobacco. Fresh acidity which complements the heat of the alcohol strength, proving endless pleasant sensations and honest aromas in the palate. Lenghty finish.' I found it full of mineral - slate, wet concrete, clay and a distinct and pronounced petrol smell and taste. This reduced itself after a while in the glass and more stewed/dense fruit and cocoa. Unexpected to say the least. Would not have figured this for a Syrah and not sure how to pair this with anything...but will try again, but by the bottle this time, instead of a Glass.
After trying some watery New York State reds yesterday, now we're talking. Full bodied earthy syrah bursting with pepper, earth, and dark fruit. Nice dark color and grapey aroma, but drinks very earthy.
Light purple. Aroma of black berries. Velvet-like palate with a medium mouthfeel. Hints of herb and slight spice that leads into the finish.
Great wine vintage by vintage. A go to for me. Great example of what a Chilean Syrah can be. Moderately price and a great value. Subtle spice to a well balanced fruit forward wine.
One of my favorite vineyards in Chile. I have now had the '08 and the '06 and have purchased several bottles of both vintages. I prefer the '06 but it is mostly probably because it has aged slightly longer which is amazingly noticeable in this wine. This vintage still seem young and closed off. Still with the hints of black pepper that crescendos into the finish but not as much pizazz as the older vintage. I would hold on to this baby a few years. It won't disappoint!
very nice, sweet yet dry

The 2010 Montes Alpha Syrah comes from the Apalta sub-region in Colchagua and is blended with 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Viognier. It has a reticent nose that unfurls to reveal copious blueberry and cassis fruit laced with vanilla. The palate is full-bodied with a layer of creamy oak smeared over the spicy black fruit on the entry, though it shows good weight towards the powerful finish. Give this Syrah twelve months to calm down in bottle. Drink 2013–2020.
Ripe, polished and forward, with toasty vanilla and sweet spice leading the way for creamy-textured plum and blackberry fruit. Drink now.
Rubinroter Wein. Beeriges Bouquet mit schöner Würze, Zimt und intensivem Duft. Im Gaumen konzentriert und körperreich mit weichen und reifen Tanninen. Langer und eleganter Abgang.
The 2008 Alpha Syrah is purple/black in color with an alluring nose of smoke, game, mineral, underbrush, and blueberry. Medium- to full-bodied, succulent and chewy on the palate, this lengthy effort is likely to evolve for 1ndash;2 years but can be approached now.
Opens nicely, with hints of olive, earth, rubber and leather. The palate is juicy and lively, while flavors of coconut, toast and black fruit meld together in good fashion. A fresh, clean style of Syrah thatrsquo;s forward but not hard or tannic.
