Food Pairings for Montes Merlot Colchagua Valley Alpha
deep color, subtle fuits, low tannins, smooth in finish, nothing offends
Spicy wine with notes of some red fruit. Ok, not great.
Very rich, stewed in sweet plumbs, oaky full body. Very yummy and drinkable.
This is probably a great wine for people who love complex acidic wines that offer many different tastes. This wine smells and tastes like a Cab Sav to me, and is a great wine for heavy steaks, etc... I however am not a fan, like my Syrah's to be more balanced and possess more silky tannins.
Good for everyday, but really over oaked
maple and berries in nose. Cocoa, vanilla, blueberry, but earthy and not oversweet. Finish medium length, dry with cocoa and berries.
1) Excellent Crimson Red Bright ruby Colour. Good Legs 2) Bouquet of Plum, Spice and Red berries and chocolate 3) Palate: Soft with Plum, spice and hint of strawberry, Cherry and mint. Rubinrot.
WA 90 Pts - According to Wine Advocate: The 2008 Alpha Merlot is dark ruby red with an intriguing nose of cocoa/chocolate malt, a hint of herbs, cassis, and black cherry. Sweetly-fruited on the palate with a sense of elegance, this is a savory effort with good volume and a silky finish. It will offer enjoyment over the next 6-8 years. Rated 90+
Soft and ripe, with easy plum and red berry fruit. Hints of toast and herbs on the finish. Drink now.
Montes has produced a young Merlot with some oak aging. It is elegant, refined with a marked fruitiness almost irresistible to Merlot lovers and to those who sample it for the first time. One can detect notes of strong, spicy black pepper, full of harmony and soft to the palate. A blending of 15% Cabernet Sauvignon with this Merlot marries with the oak, and gives structure and finesse that will also permit long term aging.
Tasty mixed berry fruit gets a shading of roasted vanilla and briar on the open-knit finish.
A bit earthy in color; itrsquo;s not your average bright ruby. The nose is more refined and condensed than one might expect, with subdued scents of raspberry, plum and cola. Suave in terms of texture, and long on the finish.
Ripe with an abundance of jammy plum and blueberry flavors with hints of cinnamon and cloves in the finish.
