Lovely balance, with black cherry, currant and brier flavors offset by hints of cocoa, vanilla and spice. Full-bodied, but elegant, with nice length on the finish. Well-done. Drink now through 2004.
Samtig weiche Tannine in Verbindung mit einer feinen Vanillenote lassen die fruchtigen Komponenten wunderschön zur Geltung kommen.
Big and forward, with spicy, pungent aromas and also a softening hint of bread dough. The palate features snappy red fruit with drying oak in support. The tannic structure holds its own but doesn't rise up too much. A weighty, driving wine with snazzy and heft.
2004 Montes Alpha 'M' is a powerful wine with very good level of soft and rounded tannins. Intense dark red color. The wine is elegant and has very defined character.A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (10%), Cabernet Franc (50% and
The 2005 Alpha Merlot offers an attractive nose of cedar, spice box, cassis, and black cherry. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with plenty of ripe fruit and good depth. The finish is medium long and pure. Drink this tasty Merlot over the next 4-6 years. Over recent years, Montes has been one of the standard-bearers of quality wines from Chile under the leadership of Aurelio Montes. The lineup is top-notch from entry level to top-of-the-line.
Unquestionably one of the finest Chilean Merlots, the Montes boasts robust blackberry and blueberry fruits with hints of sweet vanilla and cedar aromas. Full-bodied, rich, sweet and silky on the palate with dusty tannins and a long finish--a fabulous Merlot! Built to last - structured, yet luscious, drink now or cellar. The Montes wines are consistently top quality and the Alpha Merlot distinguishes itself as one of our best fine wine values.
Description: Winter previous to 2004 harvest was normal to high in terms of rainfall and temperature was cold enough to fulfill the plant needs. During Spring, bud burst was 7 to 10 days in advance and so flowering was also about 10 days in advance. Summer was a little bit warm and dry, so irrigation was necessary to allow the plant to keep its normal process of ripening. We did the leaf removal (canopy management) late in the season. Veraison was on the same period as usual. Elegant at the same time powerful with very good level of soft tannins. Intense dark red colour. The wine has structure, power and a very well defined character. The 5% of Petit Verdot is adding an extra element of complexity. There is an pleasant and harmonious marriage of fruit and the French oak with a delightfull long finish. The structure of this wine will keep it for at least 20 years. Denomination of Origin: Santa Cruz Valley, Apalta single estate from the steeps slopes. Oak Aging: 18 months in all new French oak. Filtering: Very light filtering, avoiding over processing.
