What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Winemakers Notes

Montes Cherub is a blend of 100% Syrah from the Archangel Estate in Marchiqüe. The vineyards, atop western facing loam and clay slopes, receive cool breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean. As a result, a slow, gentle grape maturation ensured the perfect balance of concentrated fruit and bright acidity - yield was 3.2 tons per acre. Once fully ripe, the grapes were hand-picked and carefully selected on rooftop sorting tables. After a very gentle crushing, the grapes were transported by gravity to the tanks below, where they underwent the classic French Vin d’une Nuit or Wine of the Night maceration read more...for 6 to 8 hours at 50°F. The combination of this cold pre-fermentation maceration and cool evening temperatures result in a greater extraction of aromas and colour. This is an elegant, dry rosé wine. This seductive wine is fresh and well balanced. It has a bright intense pink color. Both on the nose and palate it has a distinct Syrah character, with some spiciness and hints of strawberries and lively floral flavors, mainly roses as well as orange peel. With good fruit concentration it shows richness in texture across the palate that leads to a delightfully long finish.    (hide)
