This wine is my all time favorite. I wish I knew what happened to them, they seem to have gone out of business or something.
This wine was picked up as part of a quest to find a value merlot that didn't taste like fruit juice. We were partially successful. Instead of fruit juice, we ended up with a wine that smelled like it had been sitting in my Grandma’s attic for a few years too many. On the nose, there were fruit aromas of raspberry and blackberry accompanied by stale chocolates, mustiness, and pencil lead/shavings for good measure. The palate was equally disappointing. All the flavours were found up front and quickly faded into a short, bitter, sour cherry finish which ended on an astringent note. The dusty tannins and initial smoothness were somewhat redeeming but gave false hope.
