This wine is a medium-full bodied wine, but packs a bite. It comes across a little sour after a few seconds, but makes for a very interesting flavor and finish. Paired very well with beef filets and asparagus from the grill. Great mouth feel without the 'film' of some European wines.
this wine is perfect. food, sitting around sipping. great fruity nose, nice balance of blackberries and oak. great silky mouthfeel. under $20.
Spicy and zesty. Maybe a bit heavy for tempranillo, but it travels well (out of the bottle, wandering around) and drinks like a lighter-side chianti, which pleases me.
External Reviews for Montecillo Gran Riserva
If you like a traditionally styled Rioja then this will be highly appealing. Aromas of dill, tobacco and dried fruits are enticing, while the palate veers toward subtle fruits, more tobacco and finely intertwined acidity. This is a wonderful wine from an excellent vintage, thus there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't age gracefully for another decade.
