Montecillo Crianza 2005
My favorite entry-level Spanish Tempranillo. This is for traditionalists, who want their Tempranillo to have the earthy, herbal, leathery loveliness of the grape. Aromas of leather, earth, and herbs with black cherry taking a back seat. Juicy cherry palate, medium-bodied in the mid-palate, with a lovely long aftertaste. For $12? Only 9.99 at Astor Wines in NYC, a fantastic example of tempranillo that I always recommend to friends who aren't familiar with this grape. Earthy, spicy and full of dark cherry.
Sweet and fruity, bitter end, good with our mexican dinner
Nose is full of violets with great fruit, smokey texture with ambiance of old world lingering into chocolate on the palate to finish. Hint of tobacco. Great Cassis and hints of blueberries with oddles of vanilla. I would pair this wine with lamb and buffalo.
Easy to drink. It has a light smokey wood flavor but tastes a little like cheap wine. I ate corn beef with it, they paired very well together.
Drank with a Lemon Pepper Chicken Alfredo that I had made. It was very smooth and I enjoyed it.
This may admit my lack of wine sophistication (I like to think of this is a lack of wine snobbery), but I loved this wine, partly because of the price. It was a deep full flavor, which is what I adore in wine. Served it with a pasta dish flavored with prosciutto, sage and parmesan.
