User Reviews for Monte Antico Toscana Red
Add your reviewWhat a lovely evening, nice and cool, clear skies and a beautiful sunset...it's just too bad I've been busy as all get out today! Work, then the gym for an hour, then I stopped to pick up a chicken burrito for dinner from the local Qdoba (see not every day is a gourmet feast!) and now I'd just like a nice glass of vino to relax before I start all over again tomorrow! So tonight I've decided to open a bottle of what I consider a very wonderful everyday wine. Not a spectacular, special occasion type wine, but a nice wine that comes at a price that doesn't have you filling out mortgage applications should you decide to have more than a bottle a week! This wine just keeps getting better vintage after vintage! The '06 got the big press (Spectator Top 100) but I like the '07 more. There's just more interest here. From the elegant entry to the medium-full palate to the soft, floral finish, this wine gives me just what a Tuscan Sangiovese should; pure enjoyment! 93pts.
Great find - very drinkable - keep in stock for everyday and fallback. Copied this and agree"One of Italy's better values" The blend for Monte Antico is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. The best selections are blended and aged 1 year in oak (80% in Slovenian barrels, 20% in barrique) with at least 6 months bottle age. This wine is consistently one of Italy’s better values.
Bland and dry, almost a sour flavor at first. Let it open up and it improves a bit.
Dark red color with an acidic bite at first, clears up to be very smooth after 20-30 minutes in a decanter. I highly recommend decanting this wine, though I usually decant most wines to bring about a better palate. The wine is not great, but at the price it is a good wine that can be drunk very often especially with a bit of decanting.

Monte Antico is consistently one of Tuscany's top values. Variable weather in 2006 helped the grapes to fully ripen yet retain bright acidity - particularly the Sangiovese, which makes up 85 percent of the blend. Winemaker Franco Bernabel and Milan-based wine exporter Neil Empson source the grapes from a variety of altitudes and soil types and age the wine in 80 percent Slavonian barrels and 20 percent French barriques, one-fifth new.
Bright plum, dried cherry and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and refined berry and cherry flavors. Drink now.
Here's a cheerful and well-priced blend of Sangiovese (85%), Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with good density and concentration backed by aromas of spice, blackberry and wet earth. The wine (packaged in a screw cap bottle which is rare to see on red wines from Italy) is fresh and clean and imparts fresh berry flavors.
A ripe and fruity red, with simple crushed strawberry and berry aromas and flavors. Medium body. Sangiovese. Drink now.
This wonderful Tuscan wine is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This food-friendly and versatile wine is dark ruby in color, with nuances of black cherries, plums, licorice and spice. It is medium-bodied, with a round and elegant texture. Serve with any pasta or risotto dishes and antipastos.
From the excellent 2007 vintage, Monte Antico (a blend of 85% Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) offers easy spice aromas of clove and cinnamon followed by a fresh dose of cherry fruit. - M.L. The 2007 Monte Antico is gorgeous in this vintage. Berries, flowers and spices come together nicely in this perfumed, refined Tuscan red. Once again Monte Antico over delivers, and in a big way in this vintage. Monte Antico is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.
Winemaker's Notes:
Deep ruby in color, its bouquet of leather, earth, herbs, black cherries, licorice and plums is confirmed on the medium to full-bodied palate -- round, spicy, elegant, attractively fruity and extremely versatile with any fare from pasta or risotto, to meat, fowl and cheese. Not yet reviewed; 2006 vintage rated Best Buy and 90 points by Wine Spectator: Bright plum, dried cherry and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and refined berry and cherry flavors. Drink now.
