Editorial Reviews for Mont'Arquato Chardonnay
Big black currant greets the nose accented with hints of a little truffle, black plum, cardamom and briar. This smells smooth and polished. Ripe tannins and fine acidity define the palate which shows off transparent, perfectly ripe black fruits. This is lively and detailed in the mouth, though the wood tannins seems to pinch the mid-palate just a touch at this stage. The finish is long and juicy, with a nice sweetness to help carry it through. 91 points
Tight and still quite oaky on the nose, with inky fruit, black spice notes and nuanced tea and tobacco aromas. Soft, broad and quite generous in the mouth, this lacks the tension of the 2005 and a little of the complexity as well, though it does offer up ripe dark berry fruit that shows a little chocolate, mocha edge through the moderately long finish. 88 points
This looks to be a very successful vintage for this bottling. The oak is still quite assertive but there is plenty of rich, spicy fruit adding depth on the nose. The aromatics are still a bit raw with rich notes of wild plum and blackberry tones that follow through on the moderately rich mid-palate. The structure is very well balanced with both acid and tannins being a bit obvious but overall giving a rather restrained feeling on the palate. Once the wood recedes and the fruit begins to relax this should be a wonderful wine with it's spicy black fruit accented by vanilla and cedar spice tones. This needs another 3 years to begin to show it's best. 2013-2025 91 pts
This is tight, lean and focused on the nose, with a rich core of vanilla-laced blackberry that is almost beefy in its intensity. There’s a hint of nutty oxidation here as well as layers of candle wax, tobacco, pencil shavings and dried chili aromas. Elegant and so well balanced on the palate, this delivers juicy black fruits framed with hints of baking spices and brambly fruit, all supported by ripe if very gently dusty tannins that add just a hint of chewiness to the long finish. This fruit is gorgeous, perfectly ripe, fruity and yet with great complexity. 92 points
This has a lovely nose that shows some early maturity with sweet, tobacco accents over a base of gentle black spice and smoke-tinged blackcurrant fruit. Bright acidity on entry leads to a rather gentle mid-palate that shows off very clear blackberry and red currant fruit formed with suggestions of wild herbs. This is a touch simple, yet remains clear and bright in the mouth. 88 points
95cmb-bg.jpg Well this vintage is an entirely different beast. Certainly more vegetal on the nose with a much heavier overlay of toasty, smoky oak, earth and tea notes. There's a touch of leather here as well and a more obvious eucalyptus tone. In the mouth the structural elements are both more formidable and less well integrated than with the 1994 and that keeps the wine a bit blocky and short. The fruit is more towards the red end of the spectrum but continues to be dominated by the tannins which turn a bit drying towards the back end. This needs time but it lacks some of the purity and elegance that propels the 94 to such heights. 89pts
This bottle showed a bit more herbal than usual with hints of tomato, oregano , and mint complementing the fresh red currant and black raspberry fruit tones. There's a bit of coffee cream on the nose which also finds its way to the palate where it is joined by lean, precise and fresh black raspberry fruit. This is simply superb with exceptional length and lovely topnotes of mint, white chocolate, and subtle insinuations of baking spices. An American classic 96pts.
Three and a half glasses
Fairly simple cab, not a lot going on but not bad for a mid-week quaff at a good price.
Personally, I find this wine deeper in flavors with a medium tannin structure, ripe fruit with a medium finish. However, I do believe that a little more time in the bottle will round out the wine. For the price; Good Value
My Rating 88: Well balanced body with good fruit and tannins. Nose balanced but with a hint of typical Chile wine. I don't know what it is but you could call this funky. Price is OK at Costco about $ 8
Good but a bit tannic
Wow- smooth with a great finish - loved it!

This is fresh though with plenty of the classic exoticism that almost always marks the nose of a fine Mont de Milieu. There is a beguiling succulence to the round but powerful and well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that exude a distinct saline character on the extract rich and exceptionally persistent finish. This is terrific and worth your attention. - Comments: Sweet spot Outstanding Burghound.
Produced in their gravity-flow winery, this Cabernet shows complexity and style. Montes owns high-altitude vineyards in Chile's Colchagua Valley, that benefit from the cool temperatures and the brilliant sunlight. 15% Merlot is blended in and the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 6 months. The Wine Advocate scored this super-value Cab 90 points saying "The 2011 Montes Classic Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 15% Merlot and offers a simple black currant, vanilla and violet bouquet that is joyful and well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin, crisp raspberry and dark cherry fruit, zesty acidity and lovely focus on the finish. At this price, it would be hard to find a better Cabernet. Drink now-2016."
