Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2016

Member Review by Eric Guido:

The nose was alive with intense grapefruit, white florals and wet mineral laden stone. On the palate it was electric and refreshing with tense acidity that really made it pop in the mouth. Sweet lemony grapefruit turned tart with a hint of peach and a rush from mouthwatering acidity. The finish was clean with tart citrus fruit left hanging on the senses. A nice QPR if you're in the mood for a New Zealand Sauv Blanc. It's easy drinking and fun with all the right NZ tells.

Not a top New Zealand but well made with all the right characteristics of the region. Just feel that it could have a bit more bite.

I'm not a big fan of S. blancs but this wine just made it to my list of fruity and delicious wines. To me, it taste more like Passion fruit than grapefruit.

Good wine. Clear, pale yellow. Slight herbaceous nose. Very light and refreshing on the palate. Slight grassiness and medium citrus acid. I can detect grapefruit, but it is not as strong as other NZ SBs. It is a good summer sipping wine, and I thought that our meal might overpower it. I was wrong. We had grilled Ahi Tuna with a Vietnamese cabbage salad. The meal and the wine mated very nicely. I bought this wine a few weeks ago for US$1.50. A chain supermarket was closing the local store, and in the last days they were clearing out their inventory. I think I bought the last three bottles of wine off their shelf.

Very strong green olive aroma. Soft with a leafy, green palate. Slight citrus but nothing that stands out. Was not impressed.
