Pinot Noir: Responsible for some of the greatest wines on earth - the exhausted red wines of France's Burgundy region. Pinot Noir is a notoriously fickle grape that expresses its origins like no other. It's a vine that needs to struggle to produce great wines but when it does the depth of flavors that range from cherry to cola can be explosive and the wines' bright acidity and gentle tannins make them approachable and widely appealing,

Winemakers Notes

Vincent Mongeard and his wife Anne are the current custodians of this domaine, which was founded when Vincent’s grandfather and grandmother pooled their vineyards resources in the 1920s. Today, they have over 30 hectares of vineyard, stretching from Savigny in the south to Fixin in the north, and ranging from basic Bourgogne to holdings in Grand Crus like Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Echezaux and Grands Echezaux. The 25-60 year old vines are Guyot pruned. In the spring severe debudding takes place to regulate the crop. A green harvest is carried out in the summer to increase the chances of read more...high quality and maturity. Harvest is always carried out by hand. This Pinot is clear ruby red in colour with touches of garnet. On the nose red fruits and spices dominate with touches of vanilla, smoky and woody aromas. With age these will develop into more vegetal or animal notes with scents of mushrooms, truffles and forest floor. The complexity of aromas and flavours makes this wine both rich and elegant. It is silky, full-bodied and mellow on the palate with fine, delicate tannins, good acidity and a long, complex finish.    (hide)
