The Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 after a family split with the Charles Krug Winery, which had been founded by Robert’s father.  After heading out on his own, Robert settled on land in Napa valley, and in particular the famed To Kalon Vineyard in the Rutherford district. The original plot in To Kalon Vineyard was only 12 acres, but today there are 450 acres under vine. The Robert Mondavi Winery also includes the Wappo Hill Vineyard, which is a 400 acre plot in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Within a year of its inception, the Robert Mondavi Winery proved to be a true pioneer, not only with the establishment of his winery but also by introducing and popularizing the use of French oak barrels for wine, European wine techniques, and the bottling of varietal wines. Robert Mondavi Winery only uses French Oak barrels for storing wine, and his influence and success led to the practice’s prevalence. Among Mondavi’s greatest successes one would have to count the creation of the Fume Blanc moniker for Sauvignon Blanc as well as the introduction of his benchmark Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet. Today Robert Mondavi’s legacy is carried on under the watchful eye of his wife who works with the current winemakers Genevieve Janssens, Gustavo Gonzalez, and Richard Arnold to ensure that today’s Robert Mondavi wines deliver the elegance, appeal, and character that Robert had intended. Clean, clear and well made, this wine is a classic expression of Chardonnay. Peach, apricot and cream aromas are medium in their intensity. The palate opens up bold and inviting, with powerful white grape and peach flavors, a good dose of fresh acidity to drive the palate, and a finish of bold fruit and creamy oak.

Deliciously true to the variety, it weaves together a rich and complex array of concentrated black and red berries, dusty earth and a hint of fresh herbs, rounded by a sweet underpinning of mocha-tinged toasty oak. It fleshes out steadily in the glass, and lingers, revealing even more layers of lush, ripe cherry and plummy fruit supported by firm, fine grained tannins and a refreshing acidity. - Winery

This Cabernet Sauvignon brims with blackberries, plums and spices, with soft oak nuances from barrel aging.

Flavor descriptors: Ripe pear, fresh peach and autumn quince mingle with warm hazelnut and toasted almond in this classic Chardonnay. The balance of fruit, oak, texture and varietal character concludes with a long, clean, lingering finish. Vintage: After two unusually cool, wet vintages, the 2012 growing season was a delightful return to the weather pattern that has made Napa Valley famous - a season made up of warm days, cool nights and no ill-timed rain - virtually stress free conditions for the vines and the growers. The mild conditions and lack of rainfall during the growing season allowed the generous crop to mature slowly and evenly. This harvest was almost two weeks earlier than 2011 and grapes for this Chardonnay were picked between September 2 and September 24. Vineyards: This classic Napa Valley blend brings together the best AVAs of the region for Chardonnay. The blend is dominated by fruit from the cooler regions in the southern end of the valley, where bay fog and breezes allow the grapes to ripen at a gradual, flavor-building pace while retaining refreshing, natural acidity. A small amount of fruit from our Wappo Hill vineyard, in the Stag’s Leap District, adds just the right touch of opulence to the blend. Winemaking: The grapes were harvested in the cool of the morning and gently pressed as whole clusters to conserve the vibrant, fruity flavors. Over two-thirds of the juice was fermented in French oak barrels (15% new) and the balance was cold fermented in stainless-steel tanks to retain brightness and purity of fruit. Partial malolactic fermentation balanced the lively acidity and added complexity. Each lot was aged on the yeast lees (sûr lie) and was hand-stirred regularly (bâtonnage) throughout nine months of aging, for seamless integration of flavors and a rich, creamy finish. The wine was bottled in October of 2013. - Winery Total acid: 6.9g/L Final pH: 3.51 Residual sugar: 0.72 g/L Alcohol: 13.5% by volume

Inviting in peach, pear, orange blossom and lemon chiffon, it’s nicely balanced between a texture of wet stone, keen acidity and a restrained measuring of oak. The finish revisits the lemon theme, with hints of almond and creamy, mouthwatering allure.

Fresh and youthful with lively acidity and abundant fruit. Aromas of zesty citrus and green apple mingle with a hint of coconut and subtle oak. Richly layered flavors unfold in the mouth: lemon, green apple, pear, pineapple and creme brulee.

Tantalizing entry - almost sweet with blackberry essence, it evolves into a plush, mouth filling compote of black fruit, beautifully integrated with woodsy and mineral notes, mocha, tobacco and clove. For all its volume the delivery is surprisingly fresh and supple, with a long, mocha-infused finish.
