User Reviews for Mondavi Moscato d'Oro
Add your reviewI'm by no means a wine expert, but when I sampled the Moscato d'Oro at the Mondavi winery last weekend, I *loved* the way this one tasted. I'd really like to break out of the fruity sweet wine category and try something new, but I haven't been able to find any whites or reds that I like. Any suggestions for a newbie? I need help!
This is a wonderful desert wine, soft, full and elegant the light peach hints are just an excellent compliment to a desert of assorted fruit along with a cake/ cookie of substance! One of my favorites. Years back you could not get this production unless you were actually buying it in the state of CA.
This is what I'm toasting in my profile pic! Just a really great dessert wine to share with friends.
Sweet, fruity with a hint of pear, viscous texture yet sparkling at the same time... I would have given it 4 stars, but I have tried 3 bottles - two were 2007 vintage and one was 2008. The first was AMAZING, the second was a bit sour (relative to the first bottle I tried), and the third was okay. I have noticed an inconsistency in taste in other Moscato brands as well, but for the price and volume, it is a tad expensive to hope for a good batch.
This was a great Mondavi white wine. I enjoyed this with a little bit of mild cheese and dessert. The price was well worth it in my budget range.
External Reviews for Mondavi Moscato d'Oro
Captivating aromas of lime, mint and spring flowers, with a hint of oyster shell. Juicy and lively in the mouth, with bright grapefruit and floral flavors. Comes across as much less sweet than its 100 grams of residual sugar would suggest, thanks to bright acidity and citrus peel notes. This was served to me as partly frozen slush, which is the way Robert Mondavi enjoys this extremely refreshing wine.
Still with some spritz, this is a sweet, but not too sweet, clean and vibrant wine. with rich flavors of apricots and vanilla. The effervescence should disappear in time.
As I stated earlier, Mondavi has launched an Italian varietal campaign, with good rather that sublime results. It has produced an aromatic, intense, moderately sweet yet crisp and beautifully constructed 1995 Moscato d'Oro... Mondavi's answer to the gorgeous Moscatos of Piedmont, Italy. It is a lovely, rich wine that should be over the next 1-2 years.
Robert Mondavi's original vision was to produce wines from the Napa Valley that would stand in the company of the world's finest. These wines are sourced from the finest appellations in the Napa Valley including Oakville, Stags Leap, and Carneros.
A sweet pretty wine with lip-smacking flavors of ripe, sweet oranges, apricots and cherries, with a luscious edge of smoke, vanilla and cinnamon. Tastes quite sweet, with a crisp backbone of steely acidity.
The Moscato d Oro is a study in exotic floral aromas of pink jasmine and lemon blossoms overlapping tropical notes of guava and lychee. The palate s plush, abundant stone fruit flavors are complemented by shades of orange and spice and cleansed by a refreshing, citrusy finish.
Winemaker's Notes:
91 points The Tasting Panel: Fresh, tangy and crisp with spice, lovely peach and slight spritz; racy and sweet with great acidity and structure. Intensely fruity and floral, yet light as air on the palate, the sweetness of the Moscato d'Oro is impeccably balanced by crisp, mouthwatering acidity. This elegant expression of orange blossom, white peach, fresh apricot and rose petal is interwoven with an unmistakable touch of honey. The clean, citrusy finish is enlivened by a soft, subtle tingle of effervescence. Alcohol 8.0%.
