I'm actually rating the 2007, but it's not listed here. This is a unique wine from Hungary, one that leaves you wanted to know more about Irsai Olivier. The aroma is similar to Muscat, but with flavors closer to a Gruner. Something different and refreshing for a warm summer day, but also goes well with light fish or asian foods.

Handcrafted in Maacute;tra, Hungary, this wine is 100% Irsai Oliver, a cross between Pozsonyi and Pearl of Csaba created in 1930. Limpid straw in color, it has aromas of pink grapefruit and peach. There is a sense of sweetness in the nose that is totally lacking when tasting. The flavors are pear and mango. It is smooth and juicy, crisp and bright, with an easy finish. Enjoy this delightful wine while sitting on the dock with your feet dangling in the water, or with ham salad sandwiches, grilled sausages or General Tsorsquo;s shrimp. Itrsquo;s a winner!

Made from Irsai Oliver, a Hungarian relative of what we call Muscat; that relationship is easily understood by the first sniff of this winersquo;s flowery nose. Flavors of clementine oranges, tangerines, citrus peel and lychee fruit fill the glass and are buoyed by firm acidity. Unlike many Muscat wines that have become increasingly popular as of late, this wine is completely dry. Irsquo;d pair this with honey-glazed ham, Asian cuisine, or just about any poultry that has a sweet or spicy element. A star in the making, wines like this show the promise of Hungarian winesrsquo; future, and help to shed the memory of the poorly made wines of the past.

At today's Euro-rates, better values can often be found in Hungary, with both quality and diversity continuing to improve. Made from the Irsai Oliver grape, this ultra-aromatic wine evokes muscatel.
