- Beautifully fresh pinot nose cut with ripe, crushed black fruit (though not nearly as ripe as the '99) followed by extremely rich, gloriously complex flavors that ooze extract. The tannic structure is a good deal more evident here and the length is phenomenal. If this continues to put on weight, which is clearly has since I tasted it in barrel, this will ultimately surpass the more seductive '99. Classically structured and proportioned, I admire this enormously for its rigor and purity.
