User Reviews for Mollydooker Shiraz McLaren Vale Blue Eyed Boy
Add your reviewIf you love a Shiraz, this is a must. It's a little young, but the richness and thickness of this wonderfully purple wine is too good to wait. However, a couple years of cellaring will certainly only enhance it's already outstanding taste.
Decanted 4 hours. Very dark purple color, coating the glass. Nose of blueberries. A bit hot. Sweet on the palate, but with an overabundance of alcohol heat. Very mouthcoating, with a long bittersweet finish and light tannins. At $47 at WTSO, a terrible QPR. This drinks like many $20 Shiraz' I've tried. Not impressed.
A bit to sweet for my taste, but very solid for such young wine. Nice finish - plumy but overall a very pleasant experience the screw cap is always awkward but hey that's australian Shiraz at its best
Super rich, but not over-ripe. Medium big body. Smooth. 16% alcohol. Harmonious, not overly complex. Light back palate heat.
Buttered roast beef nose, with hints of burnt underbrush. Definitely Mollydooker, with its 16% alcoholo and extraction and light tannins and acid, but not as overdone as some of their others. Not an ager. Complex finish. $50

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 96The 2006 Shiraz "Blue Eyed Boy" is predominantly Padthaway fruit. Purple-colored, it has an intense aromatic display of smoke, violets, mulberry, blueberry, and chocolate. This leads to a full-bodied, plush, wine with layers of ripe, spicy black fruits, excellent focus and delineation. The tannins are well-concealed but this wine has enough stuffing to evolve for 6-8 years. Drink it through 2025.Wine Tasting NotesThis joyous wine was named after the Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy, Sarah and Sparkys son, Luke.Just wait till you taste this wine! Sarah and Sparky blended it last week. They let me have a taste after they had decided on the blend. I couldn't believe it. There were 3 major components, but the blend was exponentially better than any of them. I dont understand how that happens. It had the best features of all three of the components depth and complexity from one, velvety unctuousness from another, intensity and color from the third, and then a something extra - a life force of its own. Magic! Janet, Sparkys mum and GM.We are so happy to be able to bring you this new wine, which we believe is a great wine at an affordable price, perfect for celebrating, sharing with friends, or relishing on your own.The grapes for this wine come from Scott and Cheryl Longbottoms and Darren and Belinda Joppichs vineyards.
Rich and ripe, with a powerful blast of blackberry, licorice and smoky spice flavors rocketing through the long finish against highly polished tannins. Yet somehow this strikes a deft balance. Needs some roast meat to tame it. Drink now through 2016.
This inky Shiraz boasts a dark purple core protruding almost all the way to the bright/vibrant rim. Lovely nose of blueberry, plum, and all-spice. Just a hint of cardamom and coffee round out the nose quite well. Very soft up front leading to to a lu... Alex Lallos. Inky purple. Boysenberry syrup and vanilla on the nose, with candied licorice adding complexity. Sweet dark berry flavors are gently supported by soft tannins and gain energy from a cracked pepper note. Thereandrsquo;s decent restraint to the sweet finishing flavors of dark fruits and floral pastille. Lush-verging-on-heavy, but in the context of this lineup the flavors offer clarity.

Winemaker's Notes:
This remarkable blockbuster Shiraz has a superbly concentrated nose of licorice plum raisin and raspberry fruit. Bursting with spice blueberry and expresso flavours intermixed with toasty oak vanillan this brilliant wine finishes smoothly with an unctuous texture and fine silky tannins.
