Mollydooker Cabernet Sauvignon Langhorne Creek the Maitre D 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Mollydooker 06 Maitre D - 91 Points, The Wine Advocate The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon "The Maitre D'" is purple-colored with a toasty, heady nose of black currants, blackberry liqueur, and licorice. This leads to a full-bodied wine with a plush texture, intense black fruit flavors, soft tannins and a finish which becomes slightly narrow. Drink this tasty Cabernet now and over the next 6 years. Mollydooker (the Australian equivalent of "Southpaw"- both Sparky and Sarah Marquis are left-handed) is the label of the renowned winemaking team of Sparky and Sarah Marquis. This is their second vintage following the schism with The Grateful Palate and the end of their involvement in the hugely successful Marquis Philips project. Total case production is 72,000, down from the 120,000 cases produced under the Marquis Philips label. They have also set up their own importing company in the United States.

Husband and wife team Sarah and Sparky Marquis are well known for making award winning wines for Fox Creek, Henry's Drive, Parsons Flat, Shirvington and Marquis Philips. This fun loving and inspiring couple now focuses exclusively on producing their own Mollydooker Wines. Their motto is ‘We make wines which make people go WOW, through attention to detail and commitment to excellence.’ They guarantee the intense fruit flavors and quality of their wines by rating them on their Marquis Fruit Weight™ scale, and rejecting those which they don’t consider good enough for their consumers. This dedication and devotion to their craft has earned them the title of Australian Winemakers of the Year and produced a Wine Spectator Top 10 Wine of the Year two years in a row and five wines that have scored 99-points from Robert Parker of the The Wine Advocate. Possessing firm dark spicy fruit layered with black pepper, displaying hints of mint on the finish. This isn't your Napa fruit bomb, consider it a cab in training.

A full flavoured wine made for drinking in winter. It's one of those drops that warms the soul and puts a smile on your face as you kick back in your armchair. Not for the faint hearted.

Good fruit, but too sweet, too little acidity, and no tannins.

Wow! This beautifully structured Cabernet entertains a big nose of crushed berries with a hint of sweet licorice, and chocolate. Every component is nicely integrated as this wine is certainly not the over-the-top style I had first suspected it might ... Alex Lallos. This deep/inky Cabernet starts off very rich with notes of plum, cassis, and graphite. A bit of spice and menthol come off as the wine begins to open up. Soft and elegant on the palate despite its heavy concentration. The medium to long finish is ful... Alex Lallos.
