What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

Winemakers Notes

90 pts - Wine SpectatorPoint Palates November Wine ClubThe compelling nose exhibits aromas of scorched earth, smoke, grilled bacon, blueberry compote, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, thick and rich, this layered Shiraz is velvety-textured and opulent. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. It is a sensational value. It can be enjoyed now but will evolve for several years.

Reviews

deep inky ruby color with viscous legs; intense, opulent blackberry, blueberry and tar on the nose; full bodied, lush mouthfeel and a bit hot; tastes like stereotypical big aussie shiraz...then again i'm drinking it out of a red solo cup, so who knows

The finish lingers for an extremely long time, say 40 seconds. What a Shiraz should taste like in my opinion.

Complexed by combining the regional flavours of grapes from McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Padthaway, this wine has incredible power and purity. As you know, Mollydooker means Aussie for left-hander, so the label depicts a boxer with two left gloves; sure to knock you out! The 2006 was an enormous hit, after receiving 94 points by Jay Miller at The Wine Advocate and chosen as the 3rd Best Value Red Wine from Australia by Harvey Steiman at The Wine Spectator with 90 points! Incredible Shiraz at an unbeatable price. 90 Points Supple and generous. A lithe mouthful of spicey blackberry and tar flavors, read more...

Explosive fruit on this, as well as some tight tannins. Definitely decant if you will be drinking now. Lots of bramble fruit on the palate - it is a mouthfull!
