An affordable way to introduce the student of wine to the great Côtes de Beaune village of Pommard is with Jean-Louis Moissenet-Bonnard's Bourgogne Rouge. 'Les Maisons Dieu' hails from the site of an old hospice structure dating back to the 10th century and produces wines worthy of the Pommard appellation. Jean-Louis bottles his wines unfiltered and they will gain further complexity with age, but are generous now. His vineyards are some of the finest in the appellation and his wines are highly and consistently praised in the French press.
