Moet & Chandon Champagne Imperial Rose 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

Our commitment to vintages is absolute. Dom Pérignon is reinvented with every vintage, daring to take risks. Using Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, we play with contrasts and complementary elements to create tension, giving birth to Dom Pérignon's highly intriguing contrast.

Moet & Chandon is one of the most well-known luxury champagne producers in the word. With over 2,500 acres of vineyards and an annual champagne production of 26,000,000 bottles, Moet & Chandon lives, breathes, and, of course, drinks champagne. The House of Moet was founded in 1743 by Claude Moet, but it wasn’t until his grandson, Jean-Remy Moet, took over that the company really took off and became an international luxury brand. Jean-Remy Moet strove to bring the pleasure of champagne to everyone he could, forming partnerships with both French and international clients on a regular basis. When Jean-Remy Moet sold the House of Moet to his son Victor Moet and his son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon in 1833, the ensuing partnership formed Moet & Chandon. Shortly after the new branding, in 1842, Moet & Chandon released its first vintage champagne, leading the way to even higher-quality champagne. In 1921, they produced their first prestige cuvée under the brand Dom Pérignon, named after a Benedictine monk who was an important pioneer for champagne. The first vintage released for sale was in 1936, and today it is managed by winemaker Richard Geoffroy. Read less

The 2002 Dom Perignon is at first intensely floral, with perfumed jasmine that dominates the bouquet. With time in the glass the wine gains richness as the flavors turn decidedly riper and almost tropical. Ripe apricots, passion fruit and peaches eme... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Approximately 50% chardonnay, 50% pinot noir. Straw colored with a persistent fine bead, the bouquet is high-toned and focused showing restrained aromas of citrus, a bit of wet stone, and spearmint. It opens softly with delicate flavors of lemon blos... Chuck Hayward. A Champagne Blend wine from Champagne in France. 2002 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon 750ml

On the nose. The first perfumed floral notes quickly open up into orange peel and dried fruits, with the characteristics of a well-matured harvest and woody spices. On the palate. The envelope is ample and the structure remarkably balanced, precise and sophisticated. The warm, radiant complexity persists and vibrates, barely touched by the subtlest hint of bitterness

A rich and smoky Champagne in a graceful package, with a beautiful, fine-grained texture to it and layers of flavor-biscuit, candied lemon peel, coffee liqueur, chamomile, pine, crystallized honey and wood smoke. This is the haute couture of the Cham... Wine Spectator. A Champagne Blend wine from Champagne in France. 2002 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon 1500ml

The first hints of fresh almonds and harvest aromas immediately open into preserved lemon and dried fruits, the whole rounded off by darker smoky and toasted qualities. The presence of the wine on the palate is immediately captivating. Paradoxically concentrated yet creamy, it is energetic and warm in the mouth, focusing on the fruit, then gradually taking on more profound bass notes. The whole holds its notes perfectly, intensively, with just a subtle, elegant hint of underlying bitterness.
