Moët & Chandon Champagne Blend Champagne Grand Vintage Brut Rosé 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2002 Brut Rose Grand Vintage is a richer, bolder wine than the Grand Vintage, just as it was in 2000. It possesses fabulous depth and richness, with layers of expressive fruit and terrific overall balance. Dried flowers, spices, licorice and herbs wrap around the finish...." WA 11/11 "A firm version that integrates racy acidity with a lively bead, yet showcases flavors of macerated cherry, whole-grain toast, dried currant, ground anise and clove, showing a smoky undertow of minerality. Features a rich, pastry-tinged finish....93" WS 11/12 "Bright salmon-skin color. Fresh red berries and spice cake on the nose, with complicating notes of potpourri and smoky lees. Pungent, palate-staining red fruit and bitter orange flavors pick up a hint of nuttiness with air while retaining good clarity. The smoky note repeats on the long, sappy finish. This drinks well now but has the structure to reward a few more years of patience. These are the most impressive vintage bottlings I've had from Moet in years...91" IWC 11/10 "So many great years in Champagne—like 2002—give the most wonderful complexity to the wines. This rosé is no exception, very crisp, shot through with acidity, with delicious mulberry and cherry flavors, just a hint of grilled nuts. It could well age for many years...93" WE 12/12 "A polished rosé, this has intriguing scents of red rose, black tea and green spice. The flavors are long, extending the vinous intensity of the fruit, finishing firm and lively. This has a classical feel, its depth of flavor suggesting a match with tea-smoked duck...91" W&S 12/10

Moet & Chandon is one of the most well-known luxury champagne producers in the word. With over 2,500 acres of vineyards and an annual champagne production of 26,000,000 bottles, Moet & Chandon lives, breathes, and, of course, drinks champagne. The House of Moet was founded in 1743 by Claude Moet, but it wasn’t until his grandson, Jean-Remy Moet, took over that the company really took off and became an international luxury brand. Jean-Remy Moet strove to bring the pleasure of champagne to everyone he could, forming partnerships with both French and international clients on a regular basis. When Jean-Remy Moet sold the House of Moet to his son Victor Moet and his son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon in 1833, the ensuing partnership formed Moet & Chandon. Shortly after the new branding, in 1842, Moet & Chandon released its first vintage champagne, leading the way to even higher-quality champagne. In 1921, they produced their first prestige cuvée under the brand Dom Pérignon, named after a Benedictine monk who was an important pioneer for champagne. The first vintage released for sale was in 1936, and today it is managed by winemaker Richard Geoffroy. Read less
