What to Expect

Brunello di Montalcino is certainly one of the premier expressions of Sangiovese in all of Italy. Unlike other regions, such as Chianti, Brunello must be produced from 100% Sangiovese, in fact the particular clone referred to as Brunello. The vineyards of Brunello cover a large hillside and can be roughly divided into four regions, though things like age of vines and vinification techniques can easily mask the characteristics of each zone. Brunello is uusally a medium full-bodied wine with both strong acidity and tannins that support leathery, subtly spicy tones of coffee and tobacco that add depth to the classic plum and dark cherry fruits.

These structured and ample bodied examples of Sangiovese are perfect to drink young. Full of black cherry fruit, subtle hints of wood, and robust elegance.

Intense ruby red in color, this Brunello has a complex and balanced nose, showing aromas of raspberries and liquorice with notes of chocolate and spice, varying from vanilla to cinnamon to coffee. Warm and full on the palate, the flavors are beautifully pronounced with excellent length.

The Mocali Brunello 2004 is a very fine example of an outstanding vintage- and at this price, so far below its peers- it is not to be missed! The aroma is so very pure, fresh and inviting. In the mouth, the wine offers beautiful fruit qualities enhanced by aging in large Slovenian casks. The wine is very expressive and very long even at this early stage, with very fine-grained tannins in a superbly elegant finale. You can put this Bruello away in your cellar if you want, but it is absolutely delicious right now!
